I have been using Advair known as Seretide 500 for 2 years. My Asthma and Chronic Bronchitis have improved radically but I am sure that i have side effects eg moon face, acute leg cramps at night, palpitations, thrush ,unexplained stomach pains, headaches, and now Acne Rosacea I am 58 !
Yesterday I asked my doctor to change my medication and he told me to STOP the Seretide immediately and just take Relievers when necessary.
I am worried about stopping the steroids suddenly can you reassure me?

Hello If you are using advair for over 2 years and your asthma has imporved in my opinion you should continue with it. Now in my experience I haven’t heard that Rosacea is caused by taking advair.
Rosacea is basically different than acne. Unlike common acne, rosacea is not primarily a plague of teenagers, but occurs most often in adults (ages 30 to 50), especially those with fair skin. So the causes for your problem is not coming from taking Seretide 500 but form other environmental factors. I will post later on an article on this because you are not the first one who is asking me about Rosacea, but let me assure you it is not because you take advair.
If you want to stop taking it you should do it step by step and reduce the dosage daily. If you experience any discomfort by doing so increase the dosage until you reach the one you are using right now, but never use more than that.
Hope this helps solving your problem. If you have any more questions please let me know. Have a great day!

I’ve been taking Advair for many years since the Seravent and Flovent were obsolete. My breathing is wonderful, I walk the treadmill 2 miles in 36 mins and all in all I’m 100% well. Yes, I do notice the flushed cheeks on occasions, this is very new to me, plus not moon face but my cheeks seem to bulge at different times. To be hooked up to life support versus chubby and flushed cheeks, I’ll take both the chubby and flushed. This is a wonder medicine as was the Prednisone which was a killer. I was steroid dependant for 25 years. Thank you to my special doctor in Daly City CA and to the scientists and chemists for striving to give asthmatics the capability to breathe and change their life style. I am so so grateful

My wife has been using Seretide for four months now. She has lost her sense of smell and has been experiencing a runny nose, dizzinesa and vomiting. Her breathing is fine most of the time but she still coughs a lot. Is this a result of taking Seretide? If so, what should we do?

When did these effects started to show up? Loosing the smell is not a side effect of Seretide, she may have an alergic reaction to this medicine. My suggestion is to go to you MD and see if your wife is having an alergic reaction to Seretide or if she is alergic to something. From what you told me this sounds like basic alergy symptoms.

I have been using Seretide for about 10 months now, it has really changed my life around i am now able to leave home without worrying if I have an inhaler in my bag. The only side effects I have noticed are pain in my legs and knees which I never had before. I have been asthmatic before these inhalers were all invented and there was only something called Ventolin Syrup. So I am really glad Seretide has come along to change my life for the better. My only fear is that maybe in a few years down the line I will be told that I cant take it anymore because they discovered it makes you grow a second heard or something. I just cant believe how well it works for me.

The company I worked for changed location to worked from a 26th floor airconditioned buildng last year 2007 and I suddenly developed Bronchitis, coughing etc. After 4 doses of antibiotics, doctor put me on Seritide. It has helped, but I dont like taking it. Now in July 2008 I decided to quit as I am having panic and bouts of nervousness, slight depression and irritablility. I had TB 10 years ago and had similar syptoms on all the meds. I know my body and these syptoms from taking Seritide are very similar and scary. I am going to see what transpires, and if all the mucus returns then go to Doc again and try alternative methods. I do get hayfever and am sensitive to meds generally, but trying to keep positive. I don’t have full blown asthma attacks but the mucus builds up and it was difficult to breathe. Had ashma when I was very young child. Have coughed up many chunks phlem and slime. Age 44. I have since left the company and work in a building where I can open the windows and am lower to the ground. Generally very healthy ? Any suggestions help ?
